Drive solutions for demanding marine applications

We supply drive solutions for demanding marine applications where hydraulics have been replaced by electromechanical systems, including on bulk carriers and luxury cruise ships. Through the transition from hydraulic cylinders to electromechanical alternatives, we create solutions that minimize maintenance and the risk of oil leaks, and provide better control, precision and energy efficiency.

High demands on marine components

The marine environment places special demands on the choice of materials, surface treatments and components to withstand moisture, salt, temperature variations and high loads. The segment is a growing and strategically important one for us, characterized by high demands on reliability, robust design and long service life in very harsh environments.

Our engineering team has long experience of sizing and developing electromechanical solutions for these conditions. We work closely with our customers throughout the development process and offer technical advice, calculations and design support to ensure that every application meets the requirements for service life, function, safety and reliability. Our products are normally CE marked, and where needed we can also supply ATEX-certified units for applications with special safety requirements.

Customized applications

We offer three core products used in marine technology: electromechanical cylinders, gears and screw jacks. The solutions are adapted to each customer’s application and area of use. The linear units are configured in terms of stroke, force, speed and duty cycle to ensure reliable function for the application in question. Mountings are adapted to the customer’s design and can be designed to withstand high mechanical stresses and marine motion patterns.

Electromechanical cylinders are customized in terms of stroke, force, speed, duty cycle, mountings, materials and choice of components. They are used, among other things, for:

  • Raising and lowering car ramps on ships
  • Opening and closing platforms on luxury cruise ships
  • Operating large hatches and doors
  • Tensioners for anchor windlasses

Screw jacks are adapted to the application in question and, if required, manufactured entirely in stainless steel.

Gears are developed as completely customer-specific solutions, for example for underwater tools used in the repair and maintenance of pipelines.

Long-term cooperation

After delivery, we offer continued support to ensure that the solution performs according to specification throughout its life cycle. Our products can be test run and evaluated in our development centre, with follow-up and documentation in the form of test reports. The customer is normally responsible for installing the units in their application, but if needed our technicians can assist with installation and test runs on site. We provide documentation and reports at the level requested and offer ongoing technical support for operation, upgrades and further development.
